I Love Weddings — Part 1

When I was getting married, I spent hours upon hours on all the details — every one of them. The ribbon on the veil, the style of the rings, the flowers in the bouquet and the perfume worn… every piece of the day is something that’s been touched and thought about. And the details that have been entrusted to someone else? We wouldn’t want you to miss them! Our job as wedding photographers, is to capture the story of your day — and that includes all the details. Here are a few of my favorites from recent weddings. Enjoy!

…another annual Valla Beach Weekend

If you are a Valla, you love the coast… period. Naysayers be damned, ’cause we know that the beautiful Oregon Coast (rain, hail, wind, sandstorms, and all) is where it’s at. This April Fool’s Day found us hunkered down in Pacific City, a long standing favorite, enjoying beach frisbee, local brews, games, and fireside homemade lasagna. Needless to say, the dogs certainly had a wonderful time too! Neon hats provided by Flamingo Jim’s in Rockaway Beach (another Valla tradition). :)

Happy First Birthday, Lillian!

There is nothing quite like the joy of a one-year-old’s birthday party and this one went down with style – tiny cupcakes, champagne and (of course) a pink tutu! Lillian has a mind of her own and moves fast these days compared to our first meeting back in 2011. We’re certainly going to miss her mom and dad when they move back to St. Louis! Congrats on making to through year one!

The Warmest Day of the Year (in February)

If you were lucky enough to visit the Oregon Coast the first weekend of February, you were in for a treat. It was over sixty degrees and no wind! Let me repeat that… no wind!! The gorgeous day was made for wandering, so we did – through Jewell, Astoria, Fort Stevens and Cannon Beach. Along for the ride was Gitzo, the amazing dog, and our trusty Fuji X10 (aka. our point-and-shoot camera). Here is a sampling of the images we can up with sans professional glass.

Leah & Matt, 12.30.11

It isn’t every day (or even every year) that we are asked to photograph a destination wedding in the middle of winter in the heart of America. Despite the ominous potential for winter-weather travel conditions, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend the wedding weekend with Leah & Matt! You may recognize these two lovebirds from this post back in August when they were just announcing their engagement. As for their wedding…

I can without any doubt say that this was the most magical winter session we’ve ever had. Snow started falling on the morning of the wedding and continued to delight us through out the day. The beautiful bride & groom looked like they could have been pulled out of a poem and the church illuminated by stained glass windows and candlelight was breathtaking. Congratulations, Leah & Matt! We wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
