C.C. Stern Type Foundry

On the 26th of March, C.C. Stern Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon opened it’s doors to the public. For a type fanatic like myself, it was a great opportunity to reconnect with the roots of mechanized typesetting. Thank you for the fabulous trip through time!!

“The mission of the C.C. Stern Type Foundry is to cultivate a unique connection between industry and the arts in the Pacific Northwest. For the first phase of the museum’s operation, our focus will be on relearning the skills and revitalizing the experiences of the working type foundry. The museum will provide educational programming, including live demonstrations of the foundry equipment and type casting processes….The Type Foundry provides a gathering place for type enthusiasts from all genres of study, connecting them with the Northwest’s printing history, as well as with national and international organizations devoted to typography, type casting and printing.” - ccsterntype.org

This year officially marks our 5th Anniversary as a small business.
As part of our new beginning in 2011, we are finally launching a new logo. Our old one, admittedly,
was not very “us” and didn’t do our work justice. It had been around since 2006, and was desperately
in need of a re-vamp. So, here it is… our beautiful little piece, ready to take on the world!

Happy 5 Years, K&K!

a new year, a new website

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Hello and welcome to 2011!

Around here we figured it’s a new year, which means it’s time for a new, improved look. So, here it is – our new website. It’s still a little under construction, but soon to be complete with new images, updated portfolios and investment pages, and (with any luck) we’ll be unveiling a new logo shortly as well! We are looking forward to another year full of fun photo sessions and great clients, see you soon!!

Happy New Year from K&K

What is K&K Graphics?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

We have been planning to start a blog for some time… it was just never the right time. Recently, all work went on a hiatus while we got married (an event 10 years in the making). So here we are, autumn of 2010, married, joyful, hard working, cameras in hand, and ready to begin.

The most practical way to start seems to be with an introduction, the What, Who and Why of K&K Graphics. We’ve been asked many times what we do, and the answer usually begins with us chuckling and wondering where to begin. So, you ask, what do we do? Here’s the short list:  photography (weddings, landscape, event, creative, marketing, etc.), graphic design (small business identities, event collateral, business stationery, etc.), calligraphy, invitation design, and various other hobbies and projects including (Kyle’s favorite) pinhole photography. Weekends are spent shooting weddings and taking trips, weeknights are for post-processing images, designing, printing, and going out to eat. And, somewhere in the middle of all that, we do maintain full time jobs at local businesses. Some may look at us and say we are workaholics, but in truth, we just love what we do.

Who is K&K Graphics? Kyle is staff member of locally owned Pro Photo Supply; Kelly is an invitation designer and digital print manager at local letterpress studio, Oblation Papers & Press. Together, we are a husband and wife team, working from home and sharing our creative services with any who desire them. We are photographers at every opportunity, perfectionists by nature, and artists by choice.

Why do we do it all? The answer is easy: Our work presents us with challenges and experiences that leave us feeling satisfied and that makes us better partners. We love the job, and moreover, we love doing the job well.

All we ask of you is to enjoy our work, and feel free to let us know if you like what you see! Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions, we’d love to hear from you. Thanks!
